Sapphire comes from the Greek word for blue, sappheiros.  Sapphires have long symbolized truth, sincerity, and faithfulness. Sapphire is September's birthstone and is also the gem choice anniversary years 5 and 45. Sapphire is traditionally seen as blue but it can be a rainbow of colors.

Sapphires can be divided into two groups. Sapphires or Fancy Sapphires. Sapphires are blue. Their shade can range from dark blue to light blue. Fancy sapphires are any other color of sapphire. They can be pink, purple, green, orange, white, and yellow. To describe a fancy sapphire you must use the color. The red version is called a ruby due to the lack of iron and the presence of the element chrome.

Sapphires can be found on Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Burma, India-Kashmir, and Thailand. You can also find sapphires at Wm MarKen Jewelers!
